Services Provided To Children At Risk

Current Activities

"Through A Childs's Eyes" provides a Pre-Kindergarten program to children who are considered "At Risk" of academic failure.

The Through A Child's Eyes Pre-Kindergarten Program provides a safe haven of instruction for the children and a source of family education for their parents in Cicero, Illinois.

The involvement of "Through A Childs Eyes" is due to our work with families through the Early Intervention program and the realization that there are few resources available within the Town of Cicero that respond to the needs of children who are "At Risk" of academic failure without appropriate services.

Funded by a grant from the Illinois State Board of Education since July 2005, the Through A Child's Eyes Pre-Kindergarten Program provide Pre-Kindergarten program services to 400 children who reside in Cicero, Illinois. The Pre-Kindergarten program services are provided to 200 children in a two and one half hour AM session or to 200 children in a two and one half hour PM session.

The Through A Child's Eyes Pre-Kindergarten Program follows the Creative Curriculum as a framework and is provided by a highly trained bilingual staff committed to addressing the needs of the whole family and helping them to achieve their highest potential.

Teaching staff is comprised of Illinois Certified Type 04 teachers in a setting that is licensed by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

Past Activities

"Through A Child's Eyes" has provided group therapy sessions to children that had been determined as developmentally delayed. The group therapy program sessions, depending upon the child's needs could have consisted of:

  • Occupational therapy;
  • Physical therapy;
  • Speech Therapy; and/or,
  • Developmental therapy.

The group therapy sessions were provided by dedicated professionals, licensed by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulations and certified by the Provider Connections of the Illinois Department of Human Services, Early Intervention Bureau.

The involvement of "Through A Childs Eyes" to children "At Risk" was due to our work with families through the Early Intervention program and the realization that there are few resources available in the Town of Cicero that respond to the needs of children who are at-risk without appropriate services.

Though a very successful program that responded to the needs of developmentally delayed children, "Through A Child's Eyes" had to end the group therapy program due to a lack of adequate funding to provide this necessary service.
