Grant Award

On December 19, 2012, Governor Pat Quinn joined the students, parents, and teachers of the Through A Child's Eyes Pre-Kindergarten Program in Cicero to announce the awarding of $45 million to 14 early childhood programs for vital improvements to early childhood facilities in high need communities across Illinois. The 14 Early Childhood Construction Grants (ECCCG) that were awarded are funded through Governor Quinn's Illinois Jobs Now! Capital Construction Program and will expand access to early childhood education, which experts have noted is critical to a student's success.

The announcement is part of the Governor's comprehensive plan to strengthen Illinois' system of improving early childhood education by implementing bold reforms that put children first. Early Childhood Construction Grants Program (ECCCG) created by Governor Quinn is the first program of its kind, in the nation.

Through A Child's Eyes will use the $5 million dollar grant award to purchase and renovate a building in Cicero to create the Building Our Futures Early Childhood Center. This new early childhood center will expand the provision of quality early childhood program services to 300 children in Cicero. It is projected that 200 of those capacities will be for the Pre-School for All program and 100 of those capacities will be for licensed full day child care. The site selected for the location of the Building Our Futures Early Childhood Center in Cicero is based upon a careful analysis of the population of Cicero to determine an available, accessible location where the families with the most need for early childhood service reside.
